Immediately after the holidays, the official announcements are expected to be made by the Ministries of Energy and Finance, regarding the new subsidy system for electricity bills. The new aid package is expected to total € 1.5 billion to € 2 billion and will affect both households and businesses.
According to information, the package of measures was finalized during a meeting held yesterday afternoon with the participation of the Minister of Environment and Energy K. Skrekas, the Minister of State A. Skertsos, the head of the financial office of the Prime Minister, A. Patelis, the . Minister of Finance Th. Skylakakis, the president of DAPEEP G. Giarenti, the secretary general of energy A. Sdoukou and the president of RAE Th. Dagouma.
The new mechanism stops the horizontal subsidies that were in force until today and concerned all households, a policy which had raised objections on the part of the Commission, which saw intervention in setting prices and therefore intervention in competition. Unlike the new aid package, there is co-operation between the Greek government and the Commission.
What will be the form of the new grant
According to information, a consumer subsidy mechanism will be created, which will be activated depending on the course of the wholesale price of electricity and which will subsidize specific categories of consumers.
There will be specific criteria, income, property but also consumption criteria, based on which the grant will be awarded.
Medium and high voltage energy-intensive businesses as well as low-voltage businesses will also be supported.
The resources for the new package of consumer aid, in order to deal with the effects of the energy crisis will come from the Energy Transition Fund managed by DAPEEP. The total amount of the new package is estimated at 1.5 to 2 billion euros, an amount that is expected to come from the proceeds of the tenders for the carbon dioxide emissions, the prices of which are moving upwards and are therefore estimated to be sufficient to meet the new needs that will be created.
