Apple unveiled its new iOS 15 mobile operating system at WWDC21 last week.

A number of iOS 15 features require a new iPhone to work

The developers have already started testing the new platform, and ordinary users will be able to join beta testing in July. And although the list of supported models starts from the iPhone 6s, some features require at least an iPhone XS or a newer Apple smartphone to work, and especially “select” features are available only on the iPhone 12.

So, here is a list of features that are only available for iPhones based on SoC A12 Bionic and newer – iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone SE (2nd generation), iPhone 12, and iPhone 12 Pro:

Spatial Audio technology in FaceTime

  • FaceTime portrait mode
  • Interactive globe in “Maps”
  • Turn-by-turn navigation on walking routes with augmented reality in Maps
  • Recognition and further processing of text in photos
  • Visual Look Up – recognition of objects in the photo and obtaining further information
  • New animated wallpapers in “Weather”
  • Digital keys in the “Wallet”

IPhone 12 exclusives:

  • Improved panoramas
  • Accelerated 5G
  • 5G priority over Wi-Fi

But these functions do not have such strict requirements, but are still not intended for the iPhone 6s:

  • At least iPhone 7: Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking
  • iPhone 8: “Stability when walking”

The herd has previously known that a number of new macOS Monterey features are not available for systems based on Intel processors.
