A Palestinian was killed by Israeli army fire in the West Bank

A Palestinian was killed today during an Israeli army raid in Jenin, in the northern part of the occupied West Bank, Palestinian sources said.

Rafik Riad Ghanem was killed “in Jenin this morning,” the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced. He was 20 years old, according to the Palestinian Wafa news agency.

At the moment the Israeli army has not commented on the incident.

The army has in recent weeks stepped up raids on Jenin, with the refugee camp there seen as a stronghold of Palestinian armed groups, some of whom have launched attacks on Israelis.

Israeli security forces have been conducting almost daily operations in the West Bank since late March, following a series of attacks by Palestinians and Israeli Arabs in Israel and the West Bank that killed 19 people, mostly civilians.

The operations of the Israeli army have killed at least 50 Palestinians and three Israeli Arabs, perpetrators of attacks, some members of armed organizations and civilians. Among them the American-Palestinian al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.
