A pilot crossed from Cuba to the USA in a Soviet-designed single-engine biplane

A pilot from the Cuba left his country and arrived in the USA in a single-engine biplane of Soviet design, as announced by the Miami airport authorities.

Around 11:30 a.m. (18:30 Greek time), the Antonov An-2, a propeller-driven biplane built in 1947, landed at an airport in southern Florida, they said.

The operator said yes “he left his country and was coming from Sankti Spiritus”a province in the central part of the Caribbean country where a communist government rules, they added.

As reported by APE-MPE, members of the border guard (CBP), which undertook to handle the case, went to the spot.

Many Cubans have left their country in recent months, faced with shortages and the deepest economic crisis in 30 years. Most tried to reach the US.

From October 2021 to August 2022, nearly 200,000 Cuban citizens were arrested at the border of USAup from 30,000 in the same period last year, according to CBP numbers.

The issue is causing tensions between Washington and Havana.
