The gay kiss of A Place in the Sun sparked controversy on the web. In the episode broadcast on 2 January on Rai Tre, the characters of Sasà and Castrese (played by Cosimo Alberti and Peppe Romano) experience a moment of effusion during New Year’s Eve, which has attracted very polarized reactions on social networks.
There Neapolitan soap opera with record longevity (it has been aired since 1996 with over 6,000 episodes active) thus aroused the wrath of conservatives, who not only did not appreciate the homosexual storyline but harshly criticized it with comments of indignation. However, what annoys the more traditional ones the most is the broadcasting slot, in prime time, a timetable for the whole family and which, with rainbow stories – according to them – risks upsetting the little ones. There are those on Twitter who respond in kind using memes of simpsons and of Alessandro Borghese, considering an attitude of closure towards the sentimental vicissitudes of these two characters antiquated and offensive.
However, it is not new for the Neapolitan soap set in Posillipo because something similar happened eight years agowhen Sandro (Alessio Chiodini) realized he was attracted to Claudio (Gabriele Agnani).
Only a few months ago there was indignation because the Arab countries had banned the cartoon Lightyear for a kiss between two women or because a revolt had broken out against the two mothers featured in an episode of Peppa Pigbut history repeats itself, on one front or another.
When Rai Due had censored some gay scenes ne The rules of the perfect crimea Twitter user had sent the offending videos to producer Shonda Rhimes and the condemnation reaction triggered an about-face and an apology, but we’re talking about 2016.
In the new season of Boris (the fourth, on Disney +), the series that makes fun of the state of Italian fiction, something like this happens: in order to receive the green light for a project, they start asking for coming out amidst obvious embarrassments and forced rainbow turns. There are cases where fiction is not too far from reality.

A Place in the Sun tried to keep up with the times, promoting values of inclusiveness and equality and found himself overwhelmed by controversies that use childhood as a shield for every battle.
No official comment appears on the soap’s social profiles and the production has not released any press release in support of these allegations. Perhaps, once the holidays are over, Rai will want to take a clear and lucid position with respect to a social condemnation by a small (hopefully) minority who claim their rights while denying them to others.
