A pop art version of Monet’s most famous works at the Selby Botanic Gardens

His works Claude Monet, by the French painter and one of the founders of the Impressionist movement in a pop art version with the look of Roy Liechtenstein are presented at the Mary Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota, Florida, USA.

The late artist Roy Lichtenstein became famous by applying his interpretation of pop art to symbols of pop culture, such as Mickey Mouse and images from American commercials. However, he was also fascinated by landscapes and the popular art of Impressionism. He paid tribute and redefined Monet’s works.

For the needs of the exhibition “Roy Lichtenstein: Monet’s Garden Goes Pop!” The Botanic Gardens house an installation with large-scale versions of Monet’s works through the eyes of Roy Lichtenstein. The result is a colorful confrontation between two legends that takes France to Florida.

The display of large-scale works of art is accompanied by a complete conversion of the 607 acres in the garden of Monet in Giverny with the aesthetics of Liechtenstein.

“It’s like entering the world of Liechtenstein – if he had created a world based on Monet,” said Jennifer Rominicki, president and CEO of the Selby Gardens. “Our team followed the principles that Liechtenstein applied to his work and applies them to our interpretation of Monet’s garden in Giverny. “This innovative, riveting interpretation has never been presented before.”

Well-known elements of the garden in the house of the French painter in Giverny appear in the Shelby Botanical Gardens, but with a new note. The iconic Japanese Bridge spans the Koi Fish Lake in the Botanical Gardens, but it looks like it was painted by Liechtenstein. A combination of 2-D and 3-D elements reproduces Monet’s home or its colorful water lilies. The amazing encounters of Impressionism and Pop Art, impress visitors who move through the gardens at the Museum of Botany & Arts.

Inside the Museum, viewers can admire Liechtenstein’s Water Lilies with Reflections series, a limited edition large print created in the last years of his career that interprets Monet’s famous water lilies.

The exhibition “Roy Lichtenstein: Monet’s Garden Goes Pop!” which is part of the Jean & Alfred Goldstein Exhibition Series that explores the connection of nature and flowers with great artists will last until June 27, 2021.
