The gaming brand My.Games, part of the Mail.ru Group, has published interesting statistics based on the results of the study “Portrait of a Russian gamer 2020”.

According to the study, in 2020, gamers on all platforms began to buy more games and make in-game purchases, while the average monthly purchase order on all devices increased. The average check for purchases on mobile games in 2020 grew by 96%, and on PC – by 73%.

Over the past year, the attitude towards games in Russia has changed – if in 2019 only a quarter supported the hobby (and played themselves) or had a positive attitude, then in 2020 – already every third (25% and 33%, respectively).

70% of respondents are over 24 years old. 59% of the players are men and 41% are women. Among the respondents, 85% played mobile games at least once a month, 70% played games on a personal computer and 29% played console projects.

Among the respondents, fans of mobile projects still prevail: 85% of respondents have played on a tablet or smartphone at least once in the last month, while 78% use only Android devices. 17% of gamers started playing mobile games less than a year ago.

PC gamers are buying games more often, while purchases are increasingly going digital: only 15% of gamers buy games on physical media (22% in August 2019).

The share of console players in 2020 increased relative to August 2019: in December last year, almost a third of those surveyed played at least once on the console in the last month. The platform’s audience has changed – the proportion of women and players over 35 has grown. Among the companies Sony holds a leading position in the market: 46% of players are considering buying a next-generation console in the next six months, of which almost 80% are considering the PlayStation 5, while 19.2% are already playing on the next-generation consoles.
