The tragic drowning of a man by her Nicaragua was captured on camera on Sunday – the result of a failed attempt to cross the Mexico-US border. Calixto Rojas, 53, and his friend Elbe Castro, 42, were seen fighting to stay afloat as the Rio Grande stream rose between the Piedras Negras, Coahuila, and the Eagle Pass, Texas.
A Fox News crew spotted Castro hanging from a concrete pillar in the middle of the river as Rojas struggled with the current, trying to keep his head above water. It was later sunk while Texas National Guard soldiers were watching.
Rojas, who he was radio producer in his country, he was abducted and his body was found near an island downstream. Castro went on somehow and reached a second row of concrete pillars under a bridge, where he sat on top of a tree branch.

The U.S. Border Patrol contacted their Mexican counterparts, who rescued him and drove him back to Mexico.
The drowning took place nine days after 22-year-old Bishop Evans, a member of the Texas National Guard, lost his life while trying to rescue two immigrants who were swept away by the insidious currents of the Rio Grande.
One of the guards on the Texas side told Fox News that they had been ordered not to carry out rescue missions of people trying to cross the Rio Grande.
According to local Nicaraguan media, Rojas and Castro were among several Immigrants who paid $ 3,000 each to a woman to transport them to the Mexican border town of Piedras Negras and smuggle them into the US.
Rojas left his family behind in Nicaragua after taking part in a protest against President Daniel Ortega’s regime and was immediately attacked at his home by supporters of the Sandinista National Liberation Front.
“I was threatened with death, that if I continued like this they would destroy me and my family,” he wrote. “I had to make the difficult decision to leave my family to save their lives, because when a Sandinista march consisting of employees of the mayor’s office rushed to my house throwing stones at the roof, it was at that moment that in a consensus (decision) with my wife, I have to leave my home and therefore the country “.
Rojas traveled through Honduras before passing through El Salvador and then through Guatemala.
