Well-known iFixit experts have disassembled the new Apple headphones, which began selling a little less than a month ago. Moreover, they compared the third-generation AirPods in video to the Beats Fit Pro, which debuted in early November.
IFixit naturally noticed that both headphone models would be very difficult to repair, and it would be almost impossible to replace the battery.
In a six-minute YouTube video, an iFixit expert takes apart both Apple audio accessories and gives viewers a glimpse of their internals. Considering their small size, both devices are made in the form of a kind of multilayer “sandwich” of components, which includes thin cables, microcircuits and a battery for each earphone.
Disassembling these headphones proved to be a tricky process. iFixit required the use of a vise to break the adhesive seal and wedge a cutter between two plastic plates.
Unsurprisingly, iFixit gave the third-generation AirPods and Beats Fit Pro just zero out of 10 on the maintainability scale.
