A request to ban the Alternative for Germany (AfD) was submitted by 113 members of the Bundestag, the initiator of the request, Marko Vanderwicz, a member of the parliamentary group of the Christian Democratic Party (CDU), said earlier today. In an interview with German public broadcaster ZDF, Mr Vanderwitz urged his colleagues to move quickly because of the upcoming elections. The aim is for the submission of the application and the vote to be completed during the current legislative period so that the Federal Constitutional Court can then initiate the prescribed procedure. However, it remains unclear if and when the proposal will be put on the agenda of the Bundestag.
