A resident of Kazan is accused of fraud with the sale of mining equipment

Law enforcement agencies of Astrakhan arrested a resident of Kazan, who is suspected of posting fraudulent offers on the Internet to sell equipment for cryptocurrency mining.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for the Astrakhan region reported that officers involved in crimes in the field of information technology have completed the investigation of a criminal case against a 27-year-old resident of Kazan. The young man is accused of fraud with mining equipment for 19 million rubles.

According to the statement, the man, previously convicted of drug possession, posted tempting offers on the Internet to sell mining equipment that he allegedly had. He promised a 45-year-old resident of Pskov to sell the miners at a low price with the condition of 100% prepayment. Having received 936,000 rubles from the man, the suspect, as in the case of other victims, stopped communicating.

Operatives arrested a resident of Kazan, who is accused of a criminal offense under Part 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation – fraud on a large scale. Now the suspect is awaiting trial in a pre-trial detention center, and his case has been sent to the prosecutor’s office for approval of the charges.

According to cybersecurity company ESET, Russia leads in the number of crimes related to cryptocurrencies. In June, it was reported that the organizers of a mining hotel in the Irkutsk region lured customers with favorable prices for renting space and electricity, and then fled with their equipment for a total of 100 million rubles.
