A Russian court has ordered the arrest of a blogger for defaming the army

A Moscow court has ordered the arrest in absentia of Russian blogger Mikhail Nake, who is accused of defaming the Russian military and attacking Ukraine.

The blogger, who maintains a YouTube video blog outside Russia with more than 700,000 subscribers, is accused of spreading false information about the Russian armed forces, according to the Basmani court in Moscow, which ordered his detention, according to with its website.

A law on this crime, for which a heavy prison sentence can be imposed, was adopted in Russia after the Russian president ordered the invasion of Ukraine on February 24.

It mainly prohibits the use of the terms war or invasion in connection with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, or the accusation against the Russian army of war crimes.

Many Kremlin critics, as well as ordinary Internet users who criticize the Russian attack, have been persecuted or imprisoned, such as opposition leader Vladimir Kara-Murza or artist Alexandra Skotsilenko.
