A Russian was arrested on suspicion of spying for Israel in Lebanon

His military justice Lebanon interrogates one Russian who was arrested on suspicion of espionage in favor of Israel, a security official announced today. According to this information and as relayed by the Athens News Agency, the Russian he was recruited by Israelis who asked him to spy on Hezbollah’s offices pthe southern suburbs of Beirut, where the organization’s general staff is located, as well as its other facilities in southern Lebanon.

The man was arrested at Beirut International Airport while preparing to leave the country with his wife and their child. He was referred to military justice and is being questioned.

On Friday, the interim director general of the Internal Security Forces, General Elias Baisari, announced the arrest of “two people linked to the Israeli enemy, at the Beirut airport,” without specifying their nationalities.

The Russian embassy in Lebanon announced that it had requested clarification on the arrest as well as to provide “consular assistance” to the Russian arrested.

Lebanon and Israel are officially at war. Dozens of people have been arrested in recent years on charges of “collaboration” with Israel.
