The largest Thai retailer Central Retail Corp has distributed its own C-Coin to 80,000 employees.
As reported by Bloomberg, Central Retail Corp has given out C-Coin to its employees based on their work merit, in addition to regular compensation. C-Coin can be used instead of cash at chain restaurants or to buy products and services from partners.
The director of innovation at Central Tech, the Central Retail Corp division that developed C-Coin, Kowin Kulruchakorn said the coin could become publicly available if tested successfully.
“We see great potential for C-Coin. Whether our customers are using online stores or shopping malls, we must find the best way to interact. There are many opportunities that blockchain can give us, ”said Kovin.
Earlier, amid growing interest in cryptocurrencies in Thailand, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha warned young investors about the need to assess the risks of such investments.
