As the press service notes, VK Video has united the video databases of VKontakte, Odnoklassniki and all VK products. As a result, the new platform has become the largest video service in Russia with a daily audience of over 40 million unique users.
Let us remind you that recently the Mail.ru Group corporation turned into VK company and will gradually bring all services under a single style of names. However, here we have not only renaming, but also merging and, in fact, restarting.
According to the developers, VK Video combined key technologies within a single video platform: adaptive streaming, a cross-platform player with the “fastest first frame”, 4K quality, optimized network protocols and content delivery technologies, a single platform for personal video recommendations, new monetization formats.
In addition, simultaneously with the launch of “VK Video” in the social network “VKontakte”, the video section for the web version and the mobile application was restarted. The so-called video showcase offers an extensive library of films, series, cartoons, TV shows – they can be watched for free and in high quality.
A unified video recommendation platform was also implemented, built on machine learning algorithms that can analyze content in a frame: from people and objects, topics and emotions to speech recognition with the subsequent creation of automatic subtitles and search for them.
The obtained information about the subject of the video is used, among other things, to search for content. In addition, with the help of artificial intelligence technologies that determine the plots and characters, the video showcase offers viewing videos with the participation of the user’s friends or his favorite celebrities.
The video showcase has already become available for VKontakte users. Later it will appear in other video services of the VK ecosystem (formerly Mail.ru Group).
