“The government does not show any tolerance for violence within the Universities”, underlines in a post on social media, the Minister of State ‘Akis Skertsos and assures that the government will complete the plan for the management of the phenomenon of violence in the Universities , which, as he points out, “had been tolerated for decades in our country”.
In his post, A. Skertsos also recalls seven interventions of the Greek Police, always in cooperation with the rectory authorities, during the term of the current government, while he also points out the beginning, starting next Monday, of training for the first 400 police officers who will be available to guard the Universities. .

“Universities are places of knowledge, research and respect for the free movement of all democratic ideas. They are neither places of policing nor of fascist – by force – imposition of a single ideology.
Apart from the institutional initiatives we have taken to shield the university asylum, the government shows no tolerance for violence within the Universities.
From 2019 until today, a total of 7 interventions of ELAS have been made, always in collaboration with the rector’s authorities, in order to address specific actions for the abolition of university freedom:
-On 02-11-2019 at the Athens University of Economics and Business, an evacuation operation was carried out in the “Vancouver” building and helmets, fire extinguishers, Molotov cocktails, small quantities of drugs were confiscated. 4 people were arrested.
-On 30-12-2020 in the 1st Student Dormitory of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens, an operation was carried out to evacuate the building and laptops, sticks, helmets, masks were confiscated. 6 people were arrested.
-On 22-02-2021 in the Administration building of AUTh an evacuation operation was carried out and 31 people were arrested. The building was donated to the Rector’s Office of AUTh.
-On 15-10-2021 in the “Leonardou” room of the School of Applied Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the NTUA, an operation was carried out to tear down an arbitrary wall that had been constructed on the initiative of EAAK students.
-On 31-12-2021 and on 04-01-2022 in “Steki” of the Biological Department of AUTh an evacuation operation was carried out. The building was immediately donated to the Rectorate of AUTh.
-On 12-01-2022 at the Laboratory of Pharmacology in a building of the Department of Chemistry of AUTh. An evacuation operation was carried out and 15 people were arrested. The building was immediately donated to the Rectorate of AUTh.
-On 12-01-2022 at the Athens University of Economics and Business, an evacuation operation was carried out and six people were arrested.
At the same time, from January 17, 2022, the four-month special training of the 400 people who have been hired by the Greek Police to staff the Protection Institutions of University Institutions begins.
This is the first time that there is a comprehensive plan for the management of the phenomenon of violence in universities that had been tolerated for decades in our country. The Government will proceed with its completion “.
