“A succession of errors,” says security expert on Capitol tragedy

A sequence of errors was presented by the specialist in risk management and security Gerardo Portela in an interview with CNN, this Saturday (8), where he spoke about the accident that occurred in Capitólio, Minas Gerais. According to the Fire Department, two people died and 32 were injured after a rock fell into Lake Furnas.

According to the expert, the images circulating on social networks reveal that the occupants of the vessels were alerted by the people around them about the risk of the structure collapsing. Even so, as highlighted by the interviewee, the initiative to move away from the risk region took a long time to happen.

“These last images reveal that there was time to prevent people from being hit, there were visual signs, there were probably noises, because pieces of rock were lying on the water, it’s regrettable”, he says.

Gerardo reiterates that the boats should have the test pointed to the opposite side of the rocks, in order to facilitate the exit from the site more quickly.

“The latest images reveal the lack of preparation, we observed that the boats were overcrowded, with the bow pointed at the risk location, it should have been positioned with the bow on the opposite side in case of need to abandon the area. So a succession of failures, people farther away were noticing the risk, but they, menomo being professionals, were unable to get the right attention”, said the security specialist.
