The governor of the state of São Paulo, Rodrigo Garcia (PSDB), and the mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB), announced, this Wednesday (4), the increase in the police force in the capital of São Paulo for “Operation Sufoco”. During the press conference, Garcia stated that “the criminal who raises a weapon to the police will be shot”.
“The criminal who raises a weapon for the police will take a bullet from the police who, within the limits of the law, will act very rigorously in relation to crime”, pointed out the governor.
The police contingent in the capital is currently 5,000 agents. With the measure, it will reach 9.7 thousand. In addition, another 1,500 vehicles and six helicopters will be made available – five for the Military Police and another for the Civil Police.
The Metropolitan Civil Guard (GCM), in turn, will have over 750 professionals, totaling 2,574 per day.
According to the announcement, Operation Sufoco will carry out integrated actions by the Military and Civil Police and the Metropolitan Civil Guard (GCM) throughout the city. However, 500 points of attention were highlighted, which include major transit corridors, such as the Tietê and Pinheiros marginals, Rebouças Avenue and the North-South corridor; areas with the highest incidence of occurrences; and “disorder points”.
To increase the number of police officers, the number of vacancies in programs that allow police officers to work overtime, that is, in their spare time. The cost to the public coffers will be R$ 41.8 million per month, including the payment of overtime for police officers and the use of vehicles and aircraft.
Partnership with platforms against fake couriers
This Wednesday (4), there was also the announcement of a partnership between the state government and delivery apps to “prevent criminals from impersonating these professionals to carry out robberies”. This follows the robbery of a 20-year-old man by a “fake delivery man” on April 25.
The agreement will include the sharing of application databases with Detecta, the government’s intelligent monitoring system that uses camera monitoring and “the largest database of police information in Latin America”. According to the state administration, this measure has already started and will be expanded.
In addition, educational actions will be carried out in an “awareness campaign about delivery services through applications”, as well as blitzes.
