A total of 27 Shebab jihadists were killed in a military operation in Somalia

Her National Army Somalia (SNA) announced on Saturday that 27 fighters of the Shebab jihadist group were killed in a large-scale operation in three villages of Galmudug state in the central part of the country.

The Ministry of Defense also said that three bases of the jihadist group were destroyed during the military operation on Friday night. “Targets were three enemy bases, which were destroyed along with vehicles and military equipment“, is underlined in the relevant update from the capital Mogadishu.

In recent months, the Somali army has regained control of several areas that were under the control of Shebab. The jihadist group, which maintains strong ties to al-Qaeda, has been waging an armed struggle against Somalia’s internationally-backed federal government for more than 15 years, with the aim of toppling it and forcing the country to its own extreme version of Islamic law.
