A US teacher faces 13 years in prison for having sex with a student 30 times

An ex teacher home economics major—who rose to fame with a viral farewell video from students and appeared on Good Morning America in 2020—admitted that she did sex with a high school student up to 30 times.

Heather Hare, 33, pleaded guilty in federal court to unlawful sexual activity and now faces up to life in prison. The woman had sex with the victim, with student at Bryant High School in Arkansas, dozens of times during the 2021-2022 school year. Before her arrest and resignation from the high school in April last year, the teacher was adored by her students. They even recorded a farewell video when her class was temporarily halted during the pandemic. “It hurt me to see her so upset because she's so helpful and always so nice,” one student, Bella Watkins, told Good Morning America in 2020. “Seeing her cry was awful. I said 'I have to do something for her'”.

Hare crossed the threshold of the Authorities in April 2023 after various posts on TikTok and Snapchat alleging that she was in a relationship with a student, according to local reports. He was arrested again in July after a second student came forward, prompting authorities to seek additional charges for sexual assault first degree, the Bryant Police Department said.

Investigators revealed that when Hare first met the victim, she began individual counseling sessions with him. The 33-year-old teacher eventually gave the student her phone number and chatted with him via Instagram and Snapchat. She told the victim she dreamed they were having sex and gave him the address of her home in Conway, Arkansas. She lived at home with her husband and young daughter. Between the 2021 and 2022 school years, he had sex with the victim up to 30 times, including multiple times at her home in Conway, in her vehicle, in her classroom and in parking lots at Bryant High School. He admitted to having sex with the victim between April 21 and April 24, 2022, when he was supervising a field trip to Washington.

U.S. Attorney Jonathan D. Ross said, “This former teacher took advantage of a minor's position of trust and vulnerability, using her role to lure the minor into illegal sexual activity.” Ross added: “Our office will continue to pursue significant sanctions against any education professional who sexually abuses their students.” Prosecutors said he faces a minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum of life in prison. Prosecutors recommend he spend 13 years in prison, according to the plea deal seen by DailyMail.com.
