Even after three decades, “The Journey” remains one of the most loved soap operas by the public. The story was a remake adapted by Ivani Ribeiro in 1994, broadcast at 7pm, which achieved one of the largest audiences of the 1990s.

Check out 5 facts from “The Journey” that made the story unforgettable:

Performance by Guilherme Fontes

The story’s great villain, unlike other soap operas, Alexandre was not physically present to torment those who were still alive. After his suicide, the character remained on earth as a spirit full of rage, who also did some mischief — something that led to memes that are still used today.

Even though the time didn’t have so many technologies, the soap opera used great effects to make the character pass through people, objects, walls, in addition to giving a more ghostly appearance to the spirits.

Rooting for the couple to meet after death

The protagonists of the story, Diná (Christiane Torloni) and Otávio (Antonio Fagundes) embarked on a romance that completely won over viewers.

However, the lawyer was one of Alexandre’s targets, who felt angry at the character for refusing to defend him in court. This is how the spirit influenced a car accident that caused Otávio’s death.

Faced with the fact that separated the public’s favorite couple, many people began to hope that Diná would also die — something unusual for the stories.

To everyone’s joy — or sadness —, Alexandre’s sister suffers a heart attack in the final stretch of the story, which allows her to reunite with Otávio.

The Masked Man

One of the plot’s greatest mysteries, the Masked Man (Breno Moroni) also became one of the most striking figures for always keeping a white mask on his face, preserving his identity — which was only revealed at the end.

In the story, Adonay kept his features covered after a serious accident disfigured his face. On social media, to this day the character is remembered as one of the scariest and most unforgettable figures in history.

Spiritism

Exploring the theme of spiritualism, the soap opera was inspired by the philosophy of Allan Kardec, through two books psychographed by Chico Xavier: “ Nosso Lar ” and “E a Vida Continua”.

It was thanks to the plot that many artists connected with their religious side. Even though many were Catholics or even atheists, to this day the actors report how the soap opera affected their beliefs.

Likewise, the public was moved by the story, which led to one of the biggest hits in the 7pm slot in the 1990s.

Opening and soundtrack

Driven by the song “A Viagem”, in the voices of Roupa Nova, the soap opera also had great hits that never left the minds of viewers.
