In northern Italy, in the center of the artificial lake Lago di Resia, the whole village of Curon was found, flooded 70 years ago for the construction of a local hydroelectric power station. It was discovered thanks to repair work on the reservoir, writes the BBC.
Previously, Lago di Resia attracted tourists with an old 14th century bell tower located in the center of the lake. Now another colossal attraction has appeared there – a village flooded in 1950. They managed to find it after the lake was temporarily drained for repair work.
Pictures of the remains of the village were posted on a social network by one of the local residents. The photo shows relatively well-preserved elements of the village’s buildings – basements, stairs, trellises.
As a result of the construction of a hydroelectric power station and a dam for it, about 160 houses were found at the bottom of the lake, the inhabitants of which were settled in the vicinity.
It is noteworthy that this story formed the basis of the Netflix series “Flooded City” – the main views for the picture were filmed there.
