AADE: Located catering companies that ‘forgot’ to cut receipts on orders through delivery platforms

A new way has been found by clever businessmen – owners of catering businesses to collect VAT from their customers and not return it to the Tax Office.

Specifically, in the orders they receive through the well-known delivery platforms, they “forget” to use the cash register and deliver the delicacies without a receipt!

The auditors of the Independent Public Revenue Authority detected shocking cases of tax evasion, using a digital supership, which they have at their disposal.

Through this, they have the ability both to calculate initially – estimated – the orders, which are made through delivery, and, subsequently, to verify and conclude the exact number of them, but also of those delivered without a receipt.

In order for this to happen, in addition to the special algorithm and the use of Business Intelligence software, the transaction data for the specific companies were requested and sent from the platforms.

In the two years of the pandemic, 2020 and 2021, 34 extensive audits were carried out, which resulted in a total of 846,536 non-issues of tax data, corresponding to net concealed material of 5.7 million euros and unpaid VAT of 1.3 million euros.
