The Aave DeFi project team has announced the start of testing an ecosystem for decentralized social networks. The Lens protocol has been launched on the Polygon Mumbai testnet.
About this protocol developers reported on the social network Twitter. Lens enables the creation of “a composable and decentralized social graph that simplifies the creation of Web3 social platforms.” The creation of Lens became known last summer – a significant part of the Aave team was sent to develop the protocol.
Initially, the Lens platform was created as “Ethereum-based Twitter”, but over time, the project has been significantly expanded and now the protocol supports various social networks at the level of a common protocol. At the same time, collection tokens are one of the fundamental concepts of Lens:
“Profile NFTs are the core primitive of the Lens protocol. These dynamic NFTs are assembled and stored in users’ wallets. Private addresses can own multiple profile tokens. Also, an NFT profile can be owned by decentralized organizations (DAO) using multi-signature wallets,” the developers note.
After testing the Lens protocol on the Mumbai network, the developers plan to launch testing of the alpha version of the project on the main Polygon network. However, the timing of such testing has not yet been set.
Note that blockchain-based social networks attract investors. Some time ago, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian invested $100 million to create a decentralized social network on the Solana blockchain.
