“Abandon the battlefield? Never”, says Petrobras president

Petrobras president Joaquim Silva e Luna told CNN Brazil who will not resign from the post.

The retired general stressed that the country is facing impacts related to what he called two wars: the coronavirus pandemic and conflict in Eastern Europe.

And that, faced with the difficult scenario, it does not intend to “abandon the battlefield and leave the troops behind”.

“We are living the consequences of two wars with different impacts around the world. We are suffering the consequences of these wars. Abandon the battlefield and leave the troop behind? Never,” he stressed.

Over the weekend, President Jair Bolsonaro said that everyone can be exchanged except him, when asked if there could be a change in the command of Petrobras.

“Everyone has the possibility of being exchanged, everyone except the president and vice president of the Republic”, he said. “Nobody mentioned switching, you asked if he [Silva e Luna] can be changed, anyone can be changed except me, of course, and the vice president of the Republic, who has a mandate”, he added.

Bolsonaro also said that Petrobras cannot work for profit, but rather carry out a study and make proposals on what is needed to improve fuel prices.

“Now, Petrobras cannot work exclusively for profit, in the world in crisis and with the price of fuel very high here in Brazil,” he said.
