Abandoned plane takes police to international drug trafficking scheme

A small plane crash in December 2020 started an investigation by the Federal Police that led, this Thursday (2nd), to the fulfillment of 15 arrest warrants for international drug trafficking, criminal organization and money laundering.

The plane was hidden amidst plantations in Many Capões (RS) for a week and caught the attention of the police.

In addition to Rio Grande do Sul, the gang operated in six other states, Santa Catarina, Paraná, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, Roraima, and the Federal District.

According to the PF, the vehicle, which suffered damage during landing and could not be removed, was used to transport cocaine.

During the investigation, authorities identified that the criminal organization is formed by businessmen in the agricultural aviation sector.

The scheme also has the participation of lawyers and pilots, as well as members of a “nationally active faction”, the PF said in a statement, without revealing which faction was involved.

The Federal Police also executes the court order blocking properties and bank accounts, kidnapping and apprehension of ten planes and other vehicles of those involved.
