ABBA are back in public after 36 years

It has been 36 years since ABBA had not shown themselves all together in public, and that is why their visit to the red carpet organized in front of the ABBA Arena, built especially for them in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London on the occasion of the launch of their residency, was greeted with euphoria and jubilation. Smiling and excited, Benny Andersson (75), Agnetha Fältskog (72), Anni-Frid Lyngstad (76) and Björn Ulvaeus (77) were eager to see their digital avatars for the first time, as ABBA Voyage it will consist of a series of concerts that will see ABBA perform on stage in the form of a hologram.

Among the guests at the event, also the peperina Kylie Minogue and the model Kate Moss, fresh of testimony at the trial brought by Johnny Depp to the ex-wife Amber Heard: all there to celebrate the reunion on the red carpet of a group that managed to to write history and that, despite the passage of time, it still boasts millions of fans all over the world ready to make false cards to see them together again. The news, however, is accompanied by the certainty that the album Voyage it will be the last to involve ABBA. In an interview with The Sun, Björn has, in fact, revealed: «I don’t think there will still be music with ABBA. I think this was really our last album ».

In anticipation of their first show, ABBA nevertheless shared images of their digital selves performing at the London residency with the audience: the holograms were created after several months of work based on motion capture and performance techniqueswith avatars portraying the group as it was in 1979. A team of 850 from Industrial Light & Magic, the company founded by the creator of Star Wars George Lucas, led the operation that will accompany the tour, scheduled until 2025 and staged in a 3,000-seat arena built in East London. The theater will host eight shows per week, and will allow for an immersive 360-degree experience, giving fans the chance to get up close and personal with their idols, albeit for the last time.
