ABI Research predicts peripheral AI chip market to grow 28.4% per year from 2021 to 2026

Despite the slowdown associated with the pandemic, the market for peripheral artificial intelligence (AI) chips, according to the analyst firm ABI Research, will return to sustainable growth in the coming years and will reach $ 28 billion in 2026.

The past year has been a tough one for the suppliers of these microcircuits. The adoption of AI technology at the edge of the cloud has slowed due to blockages caused by the spread of COVID-19. Compared to the cloud AI chip market, which grew by 68% in 2020, the edge AI chip market has grown by just 1%. However, analysts expect the market to recover quickly. For the period from 2021 to 2026, growth is projected at 28.4% per year.

“The demand for edge AI is not going away anytime soon. These devices can process data locally, reducing reliance on a permanent connection to the cloud. Consumers appreciate the improved user experience provided by low latency and data privacy. At the same time, more and more businesses are looking for ways to make sense of valuable asset data. They recognize the importance of edge AI in key applications such as preventive maintenance, defect detection and monitoring, ”said Lian Jye Su, chief analyst at ABI Research. “Anticipating the growing demand for AI at the edge, even public cloud service providers such as AWS, Microsoft and Google are adopting hardware and software solutions and forging industry alliances and partnerships to develop and deploy AI at the edge.”
