Abilio Diniz's wake will be this Monday, in the Noble Hall of the Morumbi Stadium

The wake of businessman Abilio Diniz will be held this Monday (19), in the Noble Hall of the Morumbi Stadium, of São Paulo, his favorite club, from 11am to 3pm.

The wake will be open to the public. The burial will be reserved for family members.

Abilio Diniz died at the age of 87. He was admitted to the Albert Einstein Hospital, in São Paulo, and suffered respiratory failure due to pneumonitis.

Trajectory

With a career marked by entrepreneurship, Abilio Diniz transformed the family sweet shop, founded in 1949 by his father, Valentim Diniz, into one of the biggest businesses in Brazil: Grupo Pão de Açúcar.

Abilio took charge of the group in the 1990s and left “GPA” in 2013. In addition to his career at Pão de Açúcar, he had other notable roles as an entrepreneur and was a shareholder in Carrefour Brasil.

In recent years, he has also led programs at CNN where he welcomed businesspeople, politicians and important names from civil society to discuss and rethink the paths to economic and social development in our country.

The businessman was also passionate about sports and became an example of physical activity.

Abilio Diniz had six children, eighteen grandchildren, as well as great-grandchildren. His youngest son, Miguel, was born in 2009, when the businessman was 72 years old. He also faced a personal tragedy with the death of his son João Paulo, aged 58, in 2022.
