Abortion is legal in 77 countries upon request only; check which ones

The president of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Rosa Weber, scheduled the trial on the decriminalization of abortion for next Friday (22). Despite being controversial, the issue is already regulated in 77 countries worldwide, according to the NGO Center for Reproductive Rights. Check out what they are below.

Currently, 35% of women of reproductive age (661 million) across the planet live in these locations. Thus, the NGO states that there is a global trend towards the liberalization of abortion.

In addition to these places, it is possible to have an abortion, but with restrictions for social or economic reasons in 12 other countries; in another 47, abortion is only permitted to preserve the health of the pregnant person; in 43 nations, abortion is only permitted when management is life-threatening; and in another 22 it is completely prohibited, even when there is a risk to life.

North America

  • Canada;

*You U.S and the Mexico They are the only two countries in the world that have laws that vary significantly from state to state. In some of them, the agenda is permitted, in others it is prohibited, always with different rules.

As the Center for Reproductive Rights’ map only reflects the laws in force, Mexico is seen as a place with different legal frameworks, which are reflected case by case in the states.

According to the Center for Reproductive Rights, there are only regulations for the procedure in the country in cases of rape or diagnoses of feral death, and, therefore, classifies the country in the red category, the same as Brazil.

After the red category is just the dark red category, where abortion bans are widespread.
