About 30% of the population of Rio de Janeiro has already taken the booster dose for Covid-19

The city of Rio de Janeiro reached, this Friday (14), the immunization of more than two million people with the booster dose of the vaccine against Covid-19.

According to the Rio City Hall panel, 2,001,127 people have already taken the booster dose. This number represents approximately 30% of the total population.

About 680,000 people who could have already received the reinforcement, have not yet attended the health posts in the capital. Faced with the increase in the number of cases of Covid-19 caused by the Ômicron variant, the Municipal Health Department appeals to people not to fail to complete the vaccination schedule.

In the last four days, the capital of Rio de Janeiro recorded a record of new cases, but the ministry explained that, due to the volume of rapid tests carried out only this week, the data on confirmed cases of the disease are dammed.

According to the panel, in the last 24 hours, 14,817 new coronavirus infections were recorded in the city. The waiting list for a bed in the network of the Unified Health System (SUS) in the capital, at the moment, has 362 people.

Vaccination for children

Next Monday (17), the vaccination of children from 5 to 11 years old begins. As announced by the city hall, 11-year-old girls will be the first to be immunized. Then it will be the turn of the boys of the same age.

The calendar follows in a staggered way according to the arrival of doses. Children with disabilities or comorbidities can be vaccinated at any time, regardless of age, as long as they are within this age group.
