Federal Interior Minister Nancy Fesser warned of an “abstractly high threat situation” at Germany’s open-air Christmas markets, while clarifying that security authorities have no evidence of specific terrorist plans. The federal crime agency (BKA) is constantly assessing the threat situation and is in contact with the federal states, Ms Feser told the RND Network. “Federal security authorities currently have no concrete indications of danger, but given the abstractly high threat situation, we still have reason to be very cautious and take consistent action for our security,” the Home Secretary stressed, while a spokesman for BKA told RND that even if there is no evidence of a specific threat, due to the crowds that gather in markets, their usually central location and free access to them, Christmas shopping can be particularly risky.
