The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced, on Monday (22), new rules for the 2025 Oscar awards. See below:
- Animated feature films submitted in the International Feature Film category are now eligible for consideration in the Animated Feature Film category if the eligibility requirements outlined for both categories are met;
- The new eligibility period for the International Feature Film category is from November 1, 2023 to September 30, 2024;
- In the Music category, three composers may receive individual statuettes if, in rare circumstances, they all contribute fully to the score – previously, three composers were required to enter as a group;
- In the Script categories, sending the final filming script is now mandatory for consideration of original or adapted material;
- Academy will no longer recognize drive-in theaters as eligible locations for Oscar eligibility – measure was added during the Covid-19 pandemic;
Previously, the organization had already revealed the new requirements for qualification to compete for Best Film, extending the necessary screening time in the main markets in the United States – see in more detail here.
The 97th edition of the Oscars already has a date set: March 2, 2025 . The nominated films will be revealed on February 17th of the same year.
