Academy confirms that “I’m Still Here” is eligible for an Oscar; understand

THE Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences responsible for Oscar, confirmed that the film “I’m Still Here ” is eligible to compete in the 2025 edition of the awards. On Thursday (22), the institution released the list of productions that will participate in the competition in the categories of animations, documentaries and international films.

This means that the production is eligible to participate in the Oscars. To be eligible for the award, international films must be pre-selected by their respective countries and follow the award rules.

Some of the award rules require that productions be shown both in their respective countries and in the United States within a specified period, meet specific production and exhibition requirements, and are mostly spoken in the original language, among other details.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 85 countries sent their films to compete in the international category . “Still Isso Aqui”, the Brazilian representative, is considered by specialized critics as one of the favorites for the award, alongside the French “Emilia Pérez” and the German “The Seed of the Sacred Fig”.

“I’m Still Here” is an adaptation of the book of the same name written by Marcelo Rubens Paiva, known for the book “Feliz Ano Velho” — a great sales success in the 1980s. The story takes place in the 1970s, in the most intense period of the military dictatorship in Brazil, and follows the trajectory of the Paiva family, made up of Rubens (played by Selton Mello), Eunice (played by Fernanda Torres) and their children.

The family’s life is completely transformed when, on one fateful day, Rubens Paiva is taken by undercover soldiers and disappears without leaving a trace . Eunice, who will spend decades searching for answers about her husband’s whereabouts, needs to rebuild herself and chart a new path for herself and her children. Learn more about the story.
