Accident in MG: 14 bodies have already been identified

According to the Civil Police of Minas Gerais (PCMG), they were formally identified 14 bodies of victims of the bus that exploded in Teófilo Otoni, a city in the northeast of the state, in the early hours of Saturday (21).

Five of these bodies have already been removed by family members. You 41 bodies They were transported from Teófilo Otoni to the Legal Medical Institute (IML) in Belo Horizonte on Saturday afternoon (21).

Truck driver introduces himself

The driver of the trailer involved in the accident voluntarily presented himself to the police in the early afternoon of this Monday (23), at around 2:10 pm.

He presented himself at the headquarters of the 15th Civil Police Department, in Teófilo Otoni, where he remains being interviewed by the delegate responsible for the investigation.

According to PCMG sources, the driver of the bitrem trailer had his driver’s license suspended. Furthermore, he was driving overweight, at least 20 tons over the permitted limit. And it was also at high speed, at 95km/h, on a stretch of 80 km/h. Based on the time and model of the truck, it could not be on the road.

The driver fled the scene without providing assistance. On Sunday morning (22), PCMG requested the driver’s arrest.

The accident

The accident occurred after a large block of granite came loose from a twin-train trailer and hit the bus, which caught fire and subsequently exploded, according to the PRF.

Two passenger cars, an Argo and a pickup truck, were also involved in the accident.

The bus, from Viação Emtram, came from São Paulo and was destined for Elísio Medrado, in Bahia. Firefighters were called around 4am on Saturday (21).

In total, 13 people were admitted to three hospitals in the city. The two people in the truck, the three occupants of the Argo and eight passengers on the bus, of which two died in hospital.

This Monday, three people remain hospitalized at Santa Rosália Hospital, in Teófilo Otoni. An adult is in the Intensive Care Unit, a 13-year-old child is in the Coronary Care Unit and another eight-year-old is in the ward. All three are stable and are not at risk.
