Accident with a van leaves one dead and 16 injured in Linha Vermelha, in Rio

One person died and another 16 were injured this Monday (10), in a serious accident that involved a van, on the Linha Vermelha, a state expressway that connects the city of Rio de Janeiro to São João de Meriti, in Baixada Fluminense, passing through the city of Duque de Caxias.

The accident occurred around Duque de Caxias. According to the Fire Department, the driver lost control of the vehicle’s steering, which overturned and fell on another expressway, the Washington Luiz Highway.

The dead man, according to the Fire Department, is a 57-year-old security guard, identified as Mauro Francisco Vieira. The wounded were rescued and taken to Hospital Geral da Posse, in Nova Iguaçu, Hospital de Saracuruna, in Duque de Caxias, and Hospital Getúlio Vargas, in Rio de Janeiro.

The case was registered at the 59th DP (Duque de Caxias). The Civil Police informed that it will open an investigation to investigate the fact. The agency is carrying out an investigation on the spot at this time and witnesses will be heard for the investigation, which is still ongoing.

Sought, the State Department of Health (SES) has not yet expressed itself on the patients taken to the units in Nova Iguaçu and Rio de Janeiro. The same happens with the Municipal Health Department of Duque de Caxias, responsible for the administration of the Hospital de Saracuruna.
