According to Bloomberg, Nvidia is going to abandon the acquisition of Arm

It looks like Nvidia is about to abandon its attempt to acquire Arm. At least that’s what Bloomberg reported. Allegedly, the deal will fail due to the inability to obtain all the necessary approvals.

The $40 billion deal, which was announced in September 2020, offended many of Arm’s partners. They are unsure if Nvidia will retain the option to purchase licenses for future Arm processor cores if the deal goes through.

At the same time, Arm tried to convince the UK government that it would suffer greatly if the deal was not allowed. Over the past year, the company has lost ground to Intel and RISC-V, the company says. Interestingly, among its competitors, Arm also named Qualcomm, which is one of the licensees. Arm also clarified that architecture licensees do not use off-the-shelf kernels developed by Arm. They create their own processors, according to Arm, acting as its competitors.

As we have already reported, the EU competition authority, which temporarily suspended the review of the transaction at the end of December, resumed it this month. The announcement of the decision on the deal between Nvidia and Arm is scheduled for May 25th.
