According to IDC analysts, the wearable electronics market grew by 20.0% in 2021

Specialists of the analytical company IDC summed up the results of the fourth quarter of 2021 and the year as a whole in the market of wearable electronic devices. According to their calculations, only for the specified quarter 171.0 million devices were shipped, which is 10.8% more in annual terms. Full year sales were 533.6 million units, up 20.0% from 2020.

Headphones continued to be the main category. Their sales increased by 9.6% during the quarter. Now the headphone segment is almost two-thirds of the entire wearable device market. In the meantime, smartwatches have continued to take over from wristbands, offering consumers more features and customization options.

According to the results of the fourth quarter, Apple leads the market. However, in terms of growth, this company lagged behind the market as a whole – 7.3% against 10.8%. As a result, Apple’s share decreased from 36.0% to 34.9%. The share of Xiaomi, which ranks second, also decreased from 8.8% to 8.6%. The share of Samsung, which occupies the third place, decreased from 8.5% to 7.9%. This is followed by Huawei, which was able to increase sales by 35.6%. Its share increased from 5.5% to 6.7%. Rounding out the top five is Imagine Marketing. Having increased sales by 69.9%, this manufacturer was able to increase its share from 3.5% to 5.4%.

If we go to the indicators for the year as a whole, the top five looks the same, but the shares are slightly different. Apple’s share compared to 2020 decreased from 34.1% to 30.3%. The share of Xiaomi decreased from 11.4% to 10.2%. The share of Samsung remained equal to 9.0%. Huawei managed to increase its share from 7.6% to 8.0%. Finally, Imagine Marketing’s share increased from 2.3% to 5.0%.
