Specialists of the analytical company IDC have prepared a report on the smartphone market, including data for the past quarter. According to their calculations, during the reporting period, these devices were shipped 331.2 million units, which is 6.7% less than in the third quarter of 2020. The actual decline was even stronger than the 2.9% decline that IDC had forecast. Analysts attribute the reduction in supplies to a shortage of components and disruption to the usual work of production and logistics.

Samsung remains the market leader. However, the South Korean manufacturer for the year reduced deliveries from 80.4 to 69.0 million devices, that is, by 14.2%. As a result, its share decreased from 22.7% to 20.8%.
In contrast, Apple, which is in second place, increased shipments from 41.7 to 50.4 million units, or by 20.8%. This led to an increase in Apple’s share from 11.7% to 15.2%.
In third place is Xiaomi. The Chinese manufacturer reduced shipments in annual terms by 4.6%, but the market contracted more, so that the share of Xiaomi even increased slightly – from 13.1% to 13.4%.
This is followed by vivo and Oppo, which occupy 10.1% and 10.0% of the global smartphone market, respectively. A year ago, their shares were equal to 8.9% and 8.6%, respectively.
