Accused of applying a BRL 725 million scam to her own mother, she is freed in RJ

The 23rd Criminal Court of Rio de Janeiro granted on Tuesday (14) provisional release to Sabine Boghici, accused of carrying out a millionaire coup against her own mother, an elderly woman of 82 years.

The freedom of the accused includes the motivation that, in principle, “she is not considered a person with a high degree of dangerousness”.

Sabine will have to comply with precautionary measures, such as appearing monthly in court. She is prohibited from leaving the District for more than 10 days, without prior judicial authorization, and from maintaining contact by any means (including via social media, apps or telephone) with her mother and other witnesses listed by the Public Ministry. Measures include keeping a distance of 500 meters from the mother, and handing over the passport within 48 hours.

According to investigations, the plan devised by Sabine Boghici against her own mother, Geneviève Boghici, began in 2020. The elderly woman was approached by an alleged psychic on the way out of a bank agency in Copacabana, in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The woman who allegedly posed as a seer said that the elderly woman’s daughter, Sabine Boghici, was sick and would die soon.

As Sabine would face psychological problems since adolescence, the elderly woman was convinced to make the requested payments for her daughter’s supposed spiritual treatment.

On August 10, 2022, the scam came to light. Sabine Bochici and three other people from the same family were arrested, all suspected of the crime.

According to the police, the BRL 725 million scam takes into account works of art valued at BRL 710 million, jewelry worth BRL 6 million and BRL 9 million in bank payments.
