The Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice decided that the defendants accused of the death of lawyer Rodrigo Marinho Crespo will be taken to a popular jury. The crime occurred in broad daylight, in February 2024, in the center of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.
In the decision, judge Cariel Bezerra Patriota determined that the accused Leandro Machado da Silva, Cezar Daniel Mondêgo de Souza and Eduardo Sobreira de Moraes be subjected to the trial for murder for a base motive, through an ambush and preventing the victim’s defense.
One of the accused, Leandro Machado, is a military police officer and was removed from his position. He, along with the other two, became defendants in the process after the Public Ministry’s complaint was accepted by the Court, in April 2024.
Rodrigo Marinho Crespo was killed in front of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) building on February 26, 2024. The lawyer had an alleged connection with the online betting sector.
