The São Paulo Civil Police arrested, on Saturday afternoon (11), the man suspected of having led the attack on a settlement of the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) in Tremembé, in the Paraíba Valley, in the interior of São Paulo.
The man, known as “Nero do Piseiro”, had already passed through illegal possession of a firearm and confessed to the crime . The accused participated in the action and was recognized by the victims and is named as the intellectual responsible for the attack.
The attack occurred last Friday night (10) and left eight people shot — two died at the scene. The victims were rescued and taken to the Taubaté Regional Hospital and Tremembé Emergency Room. Heard by the police, the witnesses said they saw the criminals arriving at the scene in cars and motorcycles, and moments later, they shot.
On Saturday afternoon (11), Denis Carvalho, aged 29, died after remaining in an induced coma since the attack and became the third fatal victim of the attack.
The investigation indicates that the motivation would have been a disagreement over irregular land trade within the Olga Benário settlement area.
On the night of the crime, another man was approached at the scene and charged with illegal possession of the weapon. According to the police, he had gone help victims after the group leaves the property.
Sharp weapons and ammunition of different calibers, including shotguns, were seized. At the scene, the following were seized:
- 1 rake
- 1 hoe
- 1 pickaxe
- 4 knives
- 5 12 gauge cases
- 17 cases appearing to be 9 mm
Witnesses said they were threatened by a person called Ítalo — this is the second person identified by the police as being involved in the attack.
The case was registered as murder, attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm permitted for use on duty at the Taubaté Sectional Police Station. The investigation is being carried out by the Specialized Criminal Investigations Police Station (Deic) of Taubaté.
