Accused of plagiarism by Emicida’s brother, brand cancels campaign with Juliette and Duda Beat

Bauducco decided to cancel its “Magia Amarela” campaign, after being accused of plagiarism by the brother of rapper Emicida, Evandro Fióti.

In an official note, the company states that “in the face of questions about the project and the singers, Bauducco decided to cancel the campaign and will continue dialoguing with the artists involved, for whom it expresses total respect and admiration. In new opportunities, the brand will once again celebrate its iconic color and its message of unity.”

The accusation of plagiarism began with a publication by Evandro, who is a composer and CEO of Laboratório Fantasma, on X, formerly Twitter.

“I am outraged. I will explain the context of this appropriation, plagiarism and once again a lack of ethics in this market, coming mostly (but not only) from white people. And I reaffirm that this criticism is coherent and goes to the right place, I don’t want hate on top of Juliette or Duda”, Evandro published on his profile on X, formerly Twitter.

After the publication on X, Evandro opened a live on Instagram to explain his position in relation to the song, also called “Magia Amarela”, which the singers performed for the project.

“It took us 12 years to win a Grammy and the work that won us the Grammy was just stolen conceptually”, said the producer referring to the album “AmarElo”.

This Wednesday morning (18), Juliette shared an official note in which she stated that the song was part of an advertising campaign.

“We inform you that the song ‘Magia Amarela’ is part of an advertising campaign and that Juliette was hired as one of the performers for this audiovisual work. The singer’s team is in contact with the contractors responsible for creating and producing the campaign for further clarification”, says the note.

Also through social media, Duda Beat spoke about the case, confirming that it was a Bauducco campaign, and stating that she was surprised by the situation.

According to the note, the artist had no participation in “the design of the campaign, visual identity, lyrics or musical production of the advertising track/jingle”. The statement was later removed from the artist’s account.

The song “Magia Amarela”, starring Juliette and Duda Beat, was created to be part of a campaign of the same name by Bauducco, with the aim of celebrating yellow, iconic and characteristic of its visual identity, present in the company’s packaging and communications. brand for more than 30 years, in addition to combining concepts that have also been historically propagated: family, union, enchantment and communion. It would also reinforce the signature used in the brand’s campaigns: “A feeling called Family”.

The typography planned for the promotional graphic materials would be the same as that already used by the brand, both on packaging and in other campaigns and social media posts. The campaign was conceived as a broad and integrated project, born from the brand’s historical strengths.

To perform the song and star in the music video, Brazilian and international music artists were considered. The choice of singers Juliette and Duda Beat reflected the purpose of the campaign: they are two artists who already had a friendship and form “a family” based on bonds of affection, affinity and art. It is important to highlight that the participation of the singers was restricted to the interpretation of the theme song, with no connection to the creation of the campaign.

Faced with questions about the project and the singers, Bauducco decided to cancel the campaign and will continue talking to the artists involved, for whom it expresses total respect and admiration. In new opportunities, the brand will once again celebrate its iconic color and its message of unity.
