Or at least that was the case, until the Iranian fashion designer, Amen Hadem, decided to hire them as models to reintegrate them into society and show the message of strength of these brave women, who carry the work of the dressmaker with dignity and beauty.
One of them is Masume Attaie, 39, who was victimized by her father-in-law 12 years ago, when he sprayed acid on her face, blinding her on the spot, because he wanted to divorce his son. The case did not go to great lengths, because, according to the Islamic law of Iran, her two eyes were worth one of his.
Despite the cruel act and threats from the family, who assured her that if she tried to seek justice by other means, they would also throw acid at her son, Attaie decided not to let her appearance take away her dreams. With Hadem’s help, she became a model and now, along with other victims, she proves that her outer and inner beauty shines with equal intensity.
The designer assures that these women “add beauty to their garments” because they add a meaning of resilience, since despite the traumatic experiences of which they were victims, they continue to hold their heads high, for which he is proud of see your creations in them.
For his part, Attaie stated in an interview:
Perhaps a woman’s facial beauty is all she has. When that is destroyed, it is very difficult for a person to accept it and return to society once again.
Acid attacks are deplorable acts, carried out by cowardly and very damaged people who believe that the only value of a woman is her appearance. Due to the strength of women like Masume Attaie, we can see how the essence of her is still intact and that no one can ever take it away from them.
