The Acre River rose another ten centimeters compared to last Sunday (3) and reached a level of 17.78 meters in the last measurement, this Monday (4), in Rio Branco (AC), being the second biggest flood in history of the capital.
Since Thursday (29), the river has remained above 17 meters in this region. The highest level recorded was 18.40 meters on March 4, 2015, when more than one hundred thousand people were affected by floods.
Due to the worsening of the flood, Governor Gladson Cameli declared a state of emergency in two more cities in Acre: Manoel Urbano and Rodrigues Alves. Thus, the number of municipalities in this classification increased from 19 to 22.
According to Colonel Carlos Batista, coordinator of the State Civil Defense, the forecast is for more rain in the coming days. However, the expectation is that the situation will stabilize and the Acre River will begin to show signs of falling.
“But these are just predictions. The State Civil Defense structure is on full standby, providing assistance, as was done in the 19 municipalities under declaration of emergency, and we now have all our operational power.”
Visit from the Federal Government
The ministers of Integration and Regional Development, Waldez Góes, and of the Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, disembarked this Monday (4) in the areas affected by river floods.
Led by Cameli, a delegation was formed and its starting point was the city of Brasileia (AC), one of the cities most affected by floods in the state.
In addition to the presence of ministers and the governor, the institutional meeting was attended by the mayors of the affected municipalities and representatives of the federal bench of Acre.
According to the state government, the focus of the discussion was not only the immediate recovery, but also the importance of a regional strategy to deal with extreme weather events in the future.
