The Taboão da Serra Fire Department was called, last Thursday (16), to rescue three kittens that were trapped inside the wall of a house, in Embu das Artes (SP).
The animals were five days without eating or drinking water and were heard “meowing” behind a wall of the property.
According to Corporal Juliano Ferreira, from the 2nd Firefighter Subgroup of Taboão da Serra, the mission was to minimize damage to the residence. “The ideal was to cause as little damage as possible to the residence. So, we had to break the wall exactly where they were trapped”, he explained.
After locating the exact spot where the cats were, firefighters made a hole in the wall and managed to rescue safely the three puppies.
“They were already very weak, one of them couldn’t even meow because he was so weak. Certainly if a few more days had passed they could have died”, said the corporal, who was satisfied with the success of the rescue.
After the rescue, the puppies were fed and cared for on site, being kept under the family’s responsibility.
In addition to Juliano Ferreira, the operation included the participation of Sergeant Fernando Prado, Corporal Maurício Nascimento and a civil firefighter, Evangelista Nascimento.
The Public Security Secretariat (SSP) announced that this incident is just one of the many services carried out by the Fire Department in incidents involving animals. “Since the beginning of 2023, the corporation has already served almost 100 thousand calls related to animal rescues or containment of aggressive insects, such as bees and wasps, in the state of São Paulo”.
In 2023, there were registered 50.1 thousand services of this nature, and, until January 21st of this year, more than 3 thousand activations had already been registered.
