Activists in the Netherlands tied themselves to a seawall, preventing a cruise ship from reaching Amsterdam

Several members of the environmental group Extinction Rebellion (XR) tied themselves to a seawall today, preventing a cruise ship from reaching the Dutch capital, until they were removed by the intervention of police, a spokeswoman for the Port of Amsterdam said. The Serenade of the Seas, a giant 1,000-cabin cruise ship, “can continue on its way to Amsterdam” after being blocked for hours by activists, said Carlin van Essen. “Oil kills, stop cruise ships,” the activists wrote on a banner they hung at the dam, to whose gates they tied themselves in the morning, according to footage broadcast live online. Due to the situation, another ship, an oil tanker, interrupted its route.
