Actor and director Geraldo Matheus died last Friday afternoon (29), aged 93, at the Unimed Rio hospital, in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro.
Actress Christiane Torloni’s father had been hospitalized since September 10th and, according to the statement released by the hospital, the artist died of natural causes.
On social media, Christiane said goodbye to her father with an emotional text. “I say goodbye to my beloved father, Geraldo Matheus, grateful for the beautiful journey we took together. Grateful for the Art, Ethics and Love he blessed me with. And as Oscar Wilde said: ‘The mystery of Love is greater than the mystery of Death’”, wrote the actress.
Last Tuesday (26), Torloni had already published a video in which he showed concern for his father’s health and asked for prayers. “My father, Geraldo Matheus, is going through a very delicate moment in his health. I know that many like my father and my family, so I will ask you to pray for my father,” she said.
In addition to being a director and actor, Geraldo was also a producer, theater administrator and author. He was part of the first class of students at the São Paulo School of Dramatic Art in 1948 and went on to direct the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro and the former Teatro Bloch.
Geraldo leaves behind his wife and actress, Monah Delacy, 93, and two children, Christiane Torloni and Márcio Torloni. In addition to a grandson, Leonardo Carvalho, and a great-grandson, Lucca Carvalho.
