Actor and director Ney Latorraca died this Thursday (26), aged 80, in the south zone of Rio de Janeiro. The information was confirmed by Clínica São Vicente, from Rede D’or, where he was hospitalized.
The cause of death was not disclosed .
“Clínica São Vicente deeply regrets the death of patient Antonio Ney Latorraca this Thursday morning and sympathizes with his family and friends for this irreparable loss. The hospital also informs that it does not have authorization from the family to disclose further details”, says the note.
Ney Latorraca was born in Santos, on the south coast of São Paulo, on July 25, 1944. The actor debuted on Rede Globo, where he became known for roles in soap operas and humorous programs, in 1975, in the soap opera Escalada, broadcast still in black and white.
The vampire Vlad, in the soap opera “Vamp” (1991), and the character Barbosa, in “TV Pirata”, were major highlights in the artist’s career.
Career
According to the actor’s statement to the Memória Globo program, on TV Globo, Ney Latorraca is the son of artists. His father was a singer and nightclub crooner, and his mother was a chorus girl.
“I learned from a young age that I needed to act to survive, which never left me feeling traumatized, on the contrary. I was always a different child than others, I had an intriguing story. Sometimes I had to go to bed early because there was nothing to eat at home. So, to this day, for me, I’m in profit. My life is always profit”, he stated at the time.
In Santos, at the age of 19, Ney Latorraca passed his first audition and played Pluft, the Little Ghost, a play by Maria Clara Machado. After that, he decided to pursue his acting career and moved to São Paulo.
In the capital of São Paulo, he passed a test with director Plínio Marcos, at Teatro Arena, but the play “Reportagem de um Tempo Mau”, by Plínio himself, was never shown because the military government censored the play and ordered the arrest of the actors.
Back in Santos, Ney worked in a bank, in a women’s clothing store and was a semi-precious stone salesman. He enrolled at the School of Dramatic Art and did some plays, until he went to TV Tupi, where he did cameos and cameos.
The actor also worked at TV Cultura and TV Record, where he worked for five years.
