The actor Michael Keaton recalled his performance as protagonist of “Batman” (1989), directed by Tim Burton and said the filmmaker changed the way superhero movies were made.
“What this [filme] generated… there are a lot of people making a lot of money out there with their superhero movies because of his choices [Tim Burton] and his vision of what these films could be, because he changed everything,” Keaton said during the presentation of Burton’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, according to Variety.
Keaton also spoke about the controversy surrounding Burton’s casting of him as Batman.
“He handed me a script and said, ‘Tell me what you think.’ This was after Beetlejuice. After that performance. After that kind of movie. He said to the studio, ‘I want that guy.’,” the actor said. “I’ll never understand why people cared. The uproar… you’d think we were being invaded. It was unbelievable. The press was going crazy. But he stood by me. The courage it took to stick to that decision will always be important to me.”
Michael Keaton has reunited with Tim Burton in the recently released “Beetlejuice,” now in theaters.
